Both collagen and gelatin are derived from the same source so they both have excellent amino acid profiles. Very anti-inflammatory as well, making them useful for so many modern day complaints.
Collagen peptides are not exactly the same as gelatin. Gelatin is made by boiling animal bones, cartilage, and skin to extract the collagen. Collagen is the fibrous protein that connects muscles, bones, and skin in animals. Both are proteins made of amino acids, but the amino chains of collagen peptides have been cut into smaller pieces through a specific hydrolysis process. Collagen peptides do not have the gelling functionality of gelatin and are soluble in hot and cold water. This makes digestion of this protein more absorbable and easier to tolerate.
Collagen is a protein that makes up 1/3 of our body and especially our skin. That is why we are seeing it in so many beauty products. It is made up of many amino acids, found in muscle meats and fish scales and many of us are not getting that in our diets – especially if we are vegan or vegetarian.
While collagen is in many beauty product that kind of collagen isn’t often absorbed through the skin. We often need to digest it and absorb it through our gut to realise it’s true potential.
It is beneficial for:
- Healthy skin and tissue repair
- Muscle growth and maintenance
- Hair and nail growth
- Wound healing including scars
- Joints, ligaments and bones
- Ageing gracefully by supporting skin elasticity
- Digestion and gut issues
- Additional protein source
Our Beauty Collagen is sourced from grass-fed pasture-raised cows and our Marine Collagen is sourced from the scales of sustainably caught wild fish. To ensure our collagen is 100% pure quality, it is completely colourless, odourless and flavourless and will dissolve in hot or cold liquid.
